Welcome to Garnvärk
Garn means yarn in Danish – and värk means a plant, as in electricity plant or manufacturing plant. Hence, garnvärk in as place, where something with yarn happens and is transformed.
In Garnvärk you’ll find quality yarn from Danish producers along with knitting patterns and accessories. The shop is open Tuesday-Friday from 10-17:30 and Saturday from 10-14. You can also visit our shop every Wednesday from 18:30-21:30 when we meet for community knitting. Every one is welcome – language is not an obstacle here.
We will happily help you with finding a project that matches your experience in knitting or crocheting, and can of course provide English patterns through international websites. Even a few Danish knit designers publish their patterns in English.
No. 16 is full of craft and design
When you look beyond the yarn shop you’ll find No. 16, which is a community store heaping with design, craft, souvenirs and designer brands.
Along with many other Danish towns, Fredensborg has undergone a development over the last decade from being a local town to finding a new identity as a commuter town. We have a castle, beautiful nature and calm and lovely area for families, but local shops have to find new ways of taking part in town life and economy, all over the world, Denmark no exception.
Three local entrepreneurs decided to take part in the turning of times and opened No. 16 along with Garnvärk and the home style boutique Susanne Schmidt in October 2018.
